Jump Start day 5

Today is the beginning of the true test, the first weekend. Fridays I stay home with my son so it's easy to get out of my normal eating habits. So far this morning I've had half a banana, whole wheat English muffin with blackberry jelly, and two scrambled eggs with onion, peppers, tomatoes, and 1 tablespoon mozzarella cheese. Last night I shoveled the driveway and did the toning sections of the Last Chance Workout and I'll work out again today during nap. So far so good!

Tomorrow however is another story. My dad and I are going out to lunch with a friend and her dad and then to a Gopher game. My dad is doing this challenge with me and he is already planning on indulging. I feel fairly confident that I can stay in control. One of the points of the 30-day Jump Start is that if you are going to "fall off the wagon" keep it to one meal that day. That in the past hasn't worked for me. I find myself thinking that I've already "wrecked" the day so why bother and just start again tomorrow. Sitting here now I think I can do it, we'll see tomorrow. I know eating at the game won't be a problem.

So at the end of the 30 days whoever wins gets to choose something we all have to do. My mom decided that if she wins we all have to get tattoos. I already have a tattoo that I want to get re-colored but apparently that doesn't count. I don't know how keen my hubbie will be on getting one. I have always wanted another one so I guess this would be as good a reason as any.

My 30-day Jump Start

So in typical me fashion, I started watching Biggest Loser season seven. Better late than never, right? Anyway, I wouldn't consider myself obese but I am definitely a hefty girl. I do workout regularly but I still have about 20 lbs. of baby weight nearly three years later. I know I'm not alone here. So after watching season 8 I got inspired to finally do something about my physical state. I asked for the 30-day Jump Start book for Christmas. I got it and read through chapter 3 as directed. I got really excited, I finally had a plan in front of me that was simple to follow. In an effort to get my husband on board I proposed our own 30-day challenge. He agreed but became even more interested when my mom and dad said we should form teams and see who would win. The winner gets to pick a non-food related activity that everyone has ("gets") to do.

We are on day three of our challenge. It is amazing to me how much my mental state has fluctuated in three days. Day one was full of excitement and commitment. I was jazzed about the new foods I was going to eat and felt very in control. The two main parts of the plan are eating better quality food and working out 6 days a week. In order to get my workout in I've been getting up at 4:20 am. Monday was no problem, but boy was it hard to get out of bed on Tuesday. Then at work it was a struggle to get through the day. I think part of it was not having much to do and feeling like losing weight was taking forever. Isn't that insane?!? I was on day two and I already expected to see results. No wonder people don't stick with it. I think our culture has conditioned us to expect quick results. Even when I knew that with this plan I would see results I still had unrealistic expectations. Goodness. Well it didn't help that a co-worker brought in leftover Halloween candy. Normally I would have visited that stash 2 or 3 times, probably more. But I am proud to report that I resisted temptation and did not have one piece. I have to rejoice in small victories.
Today was much better. I work up early again to work out and was busy at work so I didn't have time to ponder that Halloween candy. I was so bust today I didn't even have time to eat all my food. So, lucky me I get to have a "treat" tonight of FF yogurt and grapes.
The one spot I am falling down is with the food journal. Monday's entry is complete with all the food and even what I was thinking during the day. Tuesday's is OK but I didn't even start today's. Of all the things I need to do in a day unfortunately a daily journal will be difficult and will probably fall to the bottom of the list. I just have to keep at it, the main goal is to keep excess calories out of my mouth.
The last thing I say on this for tonight is that it is amazing to me how much food you can eat when it is good quality and good for you. Other than yesterday, I haven't felt hungry because I am eating smaller amounts of better quality food more often.
I have high hopes to make some good progress this week.

Hello Blogosphere!!

Wow, I can't believe I am actually blogging. I usually find my self catching up on the latest trends about 5-10 years late. So maybe this is just about the right time for me to begin. My name is C and I live in lovely Minnesota. Although not so great this time of year. I don't think we've entered the positive Farenheit scale yet today. I am married with 1 son.

My original inspiration for this endeavour was the movie Julie & Julia. But then I wondered what I would write about. A bunch of ideas came to me and I just couldn't pick so that's why I titled this blog Random Ramblings of C. I just don't know what I'll write about from day to day. This should be an interesting ride, come along if you want to.
